Default How did you choose your gym?

Just seeing as to how you guys chose the gym you go to. What qualities do you look for?

I'm looking for a full-fledged gym in the coming months and want to make the right choice.

mostly free weights with only enough cardio equipment to sustain a cardio room (keeps the riff-raff out). plays good music. good selection of hammer machines.

There are two local gyms to me.

One is a little cheaper and a LOT more crowded...

the one i chose is a little more expensive, but a lot bigger, cleaner, and less crowded. I don't feel comfortable in a crowded gym.

In the future though, I will judge gyms soley by what equipment they have available (more than one squat rack would instantly net me as a member)

oh yeah, good addition. if there's a few squat racks, you've found a winner. a monolift, even better.

I didn't choose my gym, but if I were looking for one it would have to cater to strength athletes, not the general public or bb'ers for that matter. For example I would look for platforms, bumper plates, chains, bands, plyometric areas, ets. . .

I've been to 8 different gyms in two different countries and my favorite is my ROOM

Private, clean, my choice of music, no waiting.

But if you have to select a public gym then I agree with these^^^^guys.

That's pretty much the way I look at it. I go to a college gym it's got everything I need, it's 2 mins from work and it's only $26 a month and has a state of the art pool, hot tubs, steam, and access to all the sporting facilitys if I want to play. Only complaint is the dumbells only go up to 100.

Hell yeah. Especially since it is a brand new 50,000 square foot facility with a movie theater filled with cardio equipment

free school weights room here as well. Only problem is lack of equipment, with no squat rack and dumbbells that only go upto 25kg... location couldn't be better, since I live only a 10 minute walk away.

Nice, that reminds me a little of my old University gym. :nosthumbs

The one I go to now I picked mainly for the price and it's close to home. It has just about everything I need, many hammer machines, several squat racks, and isn't too crowded. The hours suck though.
