Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 216 | As long as both have good, solid free weights available and safe equipment I think I'd go with the one that is less busy. I'd lean towards the YMCA because fewer people will be using the free weights, plus they have a pool and other crap for you to do aside from lifting.

but it depends what you want. I've only had one experience with a YMCA, and loved it. Had great equipment, and very few users.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 35 | I agree with the one that is less busy when you are planning to be there. Most gyms will give you a week or two to try the place out. The Y I went to in the past gave a week, the other gyms I belonged to were two. As long as they have the equipment you need, that would be the first deciding factor for me. Having a pool is pretty cool, tho...

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 128 | I'm a big fan of being in close proximity to my gym.... I've never been a Gold's member, but I worked out at a YMCA for over a year and I had good experiences there. They had all the necessary freeweights, and since the demographic was mostly geriatric (or bench/curl kids), you could almost always get into the squat rack. They had a pool/basketball court/racquetball courts/etc but I never used them... If the Y has everything you need and is mostly filled by old people who won't get in the way of your workout, I say go there since it's much closer. But you really need to check out the facilities of both gyms and see if the atmosphere is somewhere you want to workout in. Nothing kills motivation like a gym with a bad vibe. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 0 | oh yea the YMCA dosn't have a cable machine, I would have to drive to different Y to use theres, they dont have a T-Row machine nor pull down machine, and dbs that only go up to 100 golds have all that |

answer : -ask if they have bands, make your own cables that way if you need cables. -use a barbell in a corner for a t-row -pull-ups -dbs only go to 100? switch up to a barbell, if you got bands, add bands to the lift, use DB's are accessory lifts.

| FDU Devils Weightlifter | i wish, I've seen some pretty crazy stuff from the other guys... like Zeke putting 40lb DB's on top of 100lb DB's to do rows because they didn't go heavier

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 0 | I work out at the "Y" and it gets the job done, but if I had a Golds Gym near-by I would probably be there. |
