Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 299 | What do you guys think it will take to bring the big fan base, crowds, and money to the sport? My idea is to make contest's true contest's in every sense of the word. I think the shows should be broken up into three rounds with each round having an equal weighting and the total points added from each round would determine the winner. The first round would be the traditional pose down with points awarded to the best overall look. The second round would be the strength round where the bodybuilders would compete in the some big compound movements like squats, bench press, etc.. for points. The final round would be combat! OK not real combat but wrestling! Fights would be arranged by the placings going into the final round. For example 20 would fight 1, 19 number 2, etc.. until there was a final champ. I think this would add a lot of entertainment value and cause physiques to come back to a more traditional functional size since mobility would be important for the wrestling. Call me crazy but this would be more of a sport then a bunch of dudes in bikini's just prancing and posing. Let's see some functional strength! What do you think? |

I mean there isa huge industry for it and tons of money but if it became like a more popular spectator sport or what not then it will be more regulated and you know someone is going to bring the drug problem up. As long as 16 year old Billy Bob from exas shoots up some sort of roid and gets emotional and shoots himself steroids will always be looked at in the publics eyes like Cocaine or Heroin.

I love the Idea of lifting included, but the idea of wrestling makes it into something other than bodybuilding because of the specific skill that wrestling encompases. I might set it up like this- And BTW, I have thought about this before too DF, (I'm glad you brought it up) Round 1, posedown for appearance 50%total score Round 2, General health inspection by doctor (Like in a dogshow ) 25%total scoreRound 3, strength and endurance 25%total score I kept the posedown as the main event to keep the sport what it is. The lifts in round three test the functionality of round 1. And the health inspection determins if they built the best body, or if they sacrificed their body for their muslces. The best part about judging 25% on overal health is that steroids are still not tested specifically to determine if you are allowed to compete, but you wont score high in the health round if you abuse your body too much. (you can cheat a steroid test, but you can't fake good health, so as long as you can keep good health with or without steroids, you will score well.)

The reason I want some form of combat was because I was thinking of taking back to more of a Roman times contest. Where your biggest and strongest competed in events that related to real world functional strength. I also think it would bring the guys back to a more of an Arnold area phsique since they would need more flexablity and endurance to be competitive. | |

The health round might make a good part of the precontest judging instead. But I stand by my claim that health is one good measure of building the best body (amongst a couple of other good measurs). How can you have the best body if your body is unhealthy??? I still don't know if wrestling would be the best idea, because I don't think choke holds, locks and reverses have anything to do with building a good body. Maybe if it were sumo wrestling, then it would be more about the athletic capability of the body rather than skills of the mind that have nothing to do with bodybuilding. My 2cents.
