Default Gas Price Protest - May 15th - READ!

someone on Myspace decided to start a little protest on May 15th about gas prices, and since memebers on myspace are from all over, they had to come up with an idea that would allow everyone to take part.

Quote:

If all myspace members did not go to the pump on the 15th it would take $2,163,302,190.00 out of the oil companys pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the oil industry for at least one day.
i think this needs to be taken 1 step further.

frankly, i dont know about all of you, but im getting seriously disgusted at gas prices lately. im in school and playing a sport, so i dont have time for a job right now, but i do enjoy going to places and chilling out with friends. and its getting to the point that im not gonna be able to do that, just cause i cant afford the gas. the car im driving gets 13 miles per gallon, and it costs me $30 a week just to go to school and practice and games. THATS $120 A MONTH JUST FOR GOING THE NECCESSARY PLACES! thats complete bullshit, this is my senior year of high school, im supposed to be out enjoying myself and spending the little bit of time i have left with my friends before i need to leave for college. i cant really afford to keep doing it, so i for one will definetly be taking part in this protest.

i think that this little protest is not even enough to make the gas places have a second thought. so this needs to go bigger. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD TO EVERYONE YOU CAN, I WANT THIS TO BECOME A NATIONAL (OR INTERNATIONAL) THING. I DONT WANNA SEE A SINGLE CAR AT ANY GAS STATION GETTING ANYTHING MORE THAN COFFEE ON MAY 15TH. I WILL BE SPREADING THE WORD TO EVERYONE I KNOW, AS WELL AS ANNOUNCING IT TO MY SCHOOL. ANY TYPE OF PUBLICITY THIS PROTEST CAN GET WILL HELP.

I really dont think this would work anyways. People NEED gas. Everybody will just buy the day before or the day after. Doesnt really make a difference IMO.

We cant really get back at them.

Yeah, not too much we can do. I'm sure oil companies are invested in alternate sources of fuel anyway, so they have no reason not to want the prices high while they can. And like he said, people will still buy it.

that is the thing, if we don't buy it on the 15th, they will have twice as much sales on the 16th, or 14th.. the best thing youc an do is ride a bike, bus, or whatever everywhere you go... that hits them teh hardest

Also if gas prices were fixed at a rate controlled by the gov. like interest rates are, then this would control prices, and more competition would arise... the worst thing ever done was the govt to allow Exxon and Mobil to combine, this caused less competition, less competition means higher prices...

Nothing is going to change the price of Oil as long as OPEC is in control. Market prices are determined by supply and demand. OPEC limit's the supply so they can reap the benifit's of the high Oil Prices. What you do at the pump will do nothing to change that. Unless everyone stopped using gas completely the supply would build and then they would be either forced to cut supply further or cost.

Even if everyone in the US didnt buy gas on one day it wouldnt make that big of an impact on the price of gas...

Yeah, that's dumb.

Although the other idea isn't that bad, something like:
"Noone buys gas from Shell until they lower their price lower than other stations"

I don't see any problems with that method except it's tough to get people to follow through.

Ya I think that has more of a chance of making a small change then anything else.
