Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 161 | http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200....ap/index.html WASHINGTON (AP) -- In the nation's capital on his first road trip of 2005, Barry Bonds questioned why Congress, the media and fans continue to talk about steroids. "I think we have other issues in this country to worry about that are a lot more serious. I think you guys should direct your efforts into taking care of that," the San Francisco Giants slugger said Tuesday before facing the Washington Nationals. "Talk about the athletes that are helping Katrina. Ask yourselves how much money y'all personally donated and have helped." Asked whether Congress was wasting time by looking into steroid use in sports, Bonds responded: "Pretty much, I think so. Yeah." Several congressional committees have held hearings on drug testing in pro sports, and legislation has been proposed to standardize leagues' drug policies. "You know what? There are still other issues that are more important," Bonds said. "Right now, people are losing lives, don't have homes, I think that's a little more serious. A lot more serious." Told of Bonds' comments, Dave Marin, a spokesman for House Government Reform Committee chairman Tom Davis, R-Va., said: "Members of Congress, particularly Tom Davis, can walk and chew gum at the same time." Congressional investigators from that committee are looking into whether Baltimore Orioles slugger Rafael Palmeiro lied under oath about steroid use and are interviewing other players who know Palmeiro. Bonds has not been contacted. "Raffy Palmeiro and I are good friends and we will stay continually good friends. Period. And I will always have respect for him as a person and a player, regardless," Bonds said. Bonds, booed throughout Tuesday's game, hit his 706th homer in the fourth inning. As the ball arched toward the stands, fans who moments earlier were booing rose to cheer. Bonds was booed when his name was announced during pregame introductions, booed when he stepped into the on-deck circle, and booed when he went out to play left field. "I've been tarnished for being in baseball for years and years. There's nothing you guys can write or people can say that's going to fix that. It doesn't matter any more. I go out there and enjoy the game," he said. It was Bonds' third homer of 2005, and it came in his 18th at-bat. Out all season after three knee operations, he returned to the Giants on Sept. 12. Amen to that... there are much bigger problems that need taken care of other than some baseball players, or anyone for that matter who wants to better their physique through the use of steroids. People dont want the truth... because the truth is that probably a lot more proffesionals are using steroids safely... i honestly dont see how that could make a fan think less of a pro. Sports are all about performance... and it is asinine to look down upon players who are only looking to better their performance.

| Mushroom Cloud Laying.... | Definitely. Bonds is the greatest ever, and anyone will do anything to disprove him of that. In the great words of Tupac. Instead of a war on poverty, there's a war on drugs and the police keep botherin' me.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 15 | I tend to think Bonds is just using 'other more important things' as an excuse to get out of trouble. And I don't much care for Steroid abuse in sports. I am not preaching against free choice for adults, but in sports, there are rules to the games. In baseball, you cannot cork a bat, a pitcher cannot use sandpaper in his glove, you cannot wear hydrolic spring boots and you should not be allowed to use steroids. I know alot of people will disagree with me here, but the level of the players ability should be based on earned skill and strength, not the ph ballance they manipulate through injections. If the players were suddenly given the 'go ahead' on steroids, and suddenly didn't have to worry about drug tests anymore... Just think what would happen, it would turn into joke like the sport of bodybuilding has become. Oh sure, it would be exciting to see records broken at first, but then things would be taken too far as the players keep taking more and more and more in order to 'get the edge' over the other guys. In the end, let's not forget that steroids are illeagal now. So whether or not you believe in them for sports or not, they are breaking laws. And because there was a hurricane down south and a war in Iraq, suddenly these guys are above the law? Can I rob your house and use the same excuse? I mean, your dvd player and television don't matter compared to the people who are dying and living in filth in NewOrleans, so I guess I'm off the hook right? ![]() Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe it's bad karma for me to think that ^, I don't know. __________________

| Mushroom Cloud Laying.... | The thing is that steroids have been given the go ahead in baseball the last 15 years. Getting steroids out of baseball will lose the fan market they have now. Let's go back to the lower scoring trends of the early 80's, how popular was baseball? Now look at McGuires and Sosa's pursuit of Maris, everyone loved it. Two steroid users bring life into baseball. The baseball needed to get "juiced"

| Mushroom Cloud Laying.... | Well, the one thing is that he has already been through probably 3-5 steroid checks since his knee injury, I think it is quite possible that he will lose that weight, not because of steroid stoppage. Plus 35 pound drop is a huge drop in muscle, post roids or not.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 68 | What does going through 3 - 5 steroid checks have to do with anything.. he stopped using them when this all started last year sometime.. so that doesnt prove anything.. I think Bonds is a good player but I dont think he is anywhere near greatest of all time.. he has the single season HR title.. but what does that mean.. one year out of all the years he played.. he hit more than 50.. WOW!!! big deal.. Personally I think his attitude stinks.. he has no clue about how to deal with fans.. and he doesnt realize that without the fans.. he would not be getting that high salary he is getting to play a game.. just my opinion.. ![]()

| Mushroom Cloud Laying.... | Hank Aaron never hit 50 homeruns =). And my point is, he is suppose to drop 35 pounds, and someone said it was because of him dropping roids, well why is he so heavy now?

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 68 | But Hank Aaron never had the single season home run title either.. He has not dropped any weight because he has been rehabbing his knee... not doing much else.. so that would explain why he still has some weight.. I would think anyway..

| Mushroom Cloud Laying.... | Also Bonds does have hitting titles, 7 mvps (most ever), almost has 3000 hits, most walks of all time, first person and probably last in the 500/500 club, the most feared batter of all time, 5 gold gloves ? (I think).

| Mushroom Cloud Laying.... | Yeah but he played in the KKK leagues of back then. I understand your point, and I agree that he was the most feared batter up til Bonds, but to compare the league of today with the league of back then is blasphemy. A bunch of country white guys vs the most dominant players in the world. No question in my heart, Bonds is the greatest.

Yea he has some gold gloves.. but that is because there has not been any good Left fielders to give him a run for that title... and lets not even go into the MVP titles.. because last year he won over Pujols.. because of his name.. not because he had better numbers... and he isnt going to win it this year... oh and about the 500/500 club... there are players that are playing now that will reach that.. so dont even give me that.. He is as feared as any homerun hitter.. McGwire, Sosa, Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, Guerrero, Ramierez, Vaughn, shall I go on?? This is a subject that I am very well versed on.. oh.. since you think Bonds is the best player ever... who do you think is the ONLY player to have over .300 avg, over 100 RBI's and 40 HR's in his first 4 years??? It is NOT Bonds.... it is a 25 year old player for the St. Louis Cardinals.. Albert Pujols.. I am not saying he is the best player ever.. but he might give your so called best player a run for his money in the next few years...
