What ever you do man, don't get down. Keep your head up and see what happens. Nothing is over... just wait until the Ortho tells you what is going on. Hang in there and keep your head up....

Thanks again for the support and encouragement everyone.

Well, it's definitely sore and tight today. I'm trying to avoid taking the prescription pain medication as much as possible, so I've been sticking to Ibuprofen so far today.

It doesn't hurt too bad as long as my arm doesn't move around. If I try to raise up my arm or stretch it out it hurts a lot..... so I'm not doing that.

Man, what a fiasco with my Health Insurance.

I have an HMO, so I have a primary care physician which I picked from a list when I signed up for my insurance.

I've had this physician as my primary care physician for 8 years, but I have never been to see him, because I really never get sick or injured.

At the emergency room last night, the ER doc could tell I would need a sports medicine Ortho, so he arranged an appointment for me for Thursday. I just needed to call this morning to get the exact time.

When I called they got me in for Thursday morning, but said I had to have a referral from my primary care physician in order for insurance to cover the specialist.

So, I call my Primary Care doc to get the referral, and it turns out I have to go in to see him today to get a referral, because I have never actually been to his office before.

So, I'm getting ready to go show one doc my injury ( and pay a co-pay ) just so I can go to doc that I really need to go to.... argh!

Oh, well. As long as it gets taken care of and paid for. ( Thankfully I do have good health insurance.. even if there is this red tape )

On a different note...... my arm pit is starting to bruise up now. I have a feeling it will be pretty black and green in a day or two.

I'm going to have Kendra snap a few pics at lunch today. I'm not sure how well the swelling will show in the pics, but I'll try to show you what it looks like.

Thanks again for all the well wishes. I'm trying to be as upbeat and positive as possible, even though I am extremely dissapointed about all of this.

Thanks guys.

I actually do have good insurance, it's just a matter of taking care of all the red tape to get things done.

Here is a quick picture.

Notice the bruising beginning in the armpit area, and notice the swelling directly above that area. That bruising has just started to come out in the last few hours.

It actually hurts worse than it looks, but hopefully you can see what's going on.

Hey, Michael, as you know, I am new to this Forum, but early on, I sensed you were one of the important Players here. I really was looking forward to meeting you in Toronto at the WNSO Worlds. I'm very, very sorry to hear about your injury. It's one of the things I worry about training at my age for competitions. I have never lifted 100 pound dumb bells, but did do 90s once, which was enough for me. Anyway, I hope the WNSO is understanding and waves the requirement that you have to compete in 2006 to keep your Pro Card. I will pray for your speedy recovery and return to the Ironman Game. My best wishes are with you and Kendra. God Bless.

Regards, Old Navy

Thank you Old Navy. I really do appreciate it.

I was also looking forward to meeting you.

We'll see what the Ortho doc says tomorrow, but if I need any kind of major surgery, I can't believe that there is much chance of me competing next year.

I just returned from my primary care physician.

I took off my shirt, and he took one look and said...... Yep, you need an Ortho specialist and approved my insurance referral. The bruising is already getting worse than it was in the pic I posted earlier.

This part is kind of funny...

As he was checking me out.. ( keep in mind I have never seen him before )

He says.. OK, you're a bodybuilder, and you were pressing with some heavy weights and then felt a tearing sensation.... How much weight were you using? I tell him......

Then, almost the next thing out of his mouth was....

Have you had your lipids tested lately?

I could tell that he probably thought I used steroids, which was most certainly why he jumped right to asking about the lipids. He was cool about it though.

Even though I don't use steroids, I actually appreciated him asking.

I told him that I hadn't had them done in a while and agreed to come back in and get them done after all this was taken care of.

So, at least that went well and my Ortho specialist was approved for insurance purposes.

I'll give you guys an update after talking to the Ortho doc tomorrow.

I guess I'll just really have to bust it on legs for a while until I can get my upper body working properly again. Hopefully I'll at least be able to get on the treadmill soon, so I can stay tight.

Thank you again for all the well wishes. They are truly appreciated.

I don't believe I've ever visited that forum, but there are probably some familiar names and faces over there.

I really do appreciate the support.

I'm glad the ortho referral was so easy, and anytime you can get the whole steroid talk it is a complement!

Wow, a pec tear is tough to come back from. It is quite possible, hopefully his chest physique isn't messed up, that would be most unforturnate for Michael and his career. This is one of those common injuries that are horrible... Michael, I hope you get better. It'll be a slow recovery, keep your diet up and hopefully get back into training later on. I bet your tore it with those 150's

I am very sorry though.

Yeah me too Trick, and that's the way I took it as well.

I try to look at the bright side of things... I was pretty happy when they did my height and weight measurement.... 5 8 1/2 .... 201 lbs.

I just took a look in the mirror and the bruising is getting much worse. The inside of my arm is even getting black and blue now.

I'm anxious to get the specialist tomorrow and find out what I'm looking at as far as recovery. I'm almost positive it's going to require surgery.... the entire portion of the pec that goes up into your underarm is no longer there on my left side.. there is just a hole there.
