Default Questions about Powerlifting

If anyone has any questions about powerlifting, I will be more then glad to answer them anyone who would like a new look going into powerlifting. I know a few of you guys are doing powerlifting, got any questions about what to do next just ask.

I have a question Peaked:

At what point should I start training with chains?

I currently Max my bench at 280, and I wondering, is it time to head down to the Marine and Boating outlet to make the purchase?

EDIT: When I am working on velocity, I use around 190 lbs.

I really feel it depends on your experience. It can be a good way to improve the lock out and accommodate resistance. If you have two solid years in powerlifting, then I would suggest the use of chains and bands. You can use chains for more then the bench press also.

i have very long arms so my bench sucks any tips on how wide of a grip to take to acomadate my long arms

Thanks. I don't have that much experience. So I suppose I'll wait.

I don't like illegal grip bench's for a competition type lift. But to cycle into your max effort work (with a lighter weight) they are great. Find what works for you right now.

That is really the only thing you can do. Not everyone with long arms will bench with the same width on their hand placement to the bar. Me for example, I also have long arms because I am almost 6'3" tall. I would place my ring finger on the lines in the bar at each end, which is a fairly narrow grip for arms as long as mine. But it worked for me because I use a lot of tricep and shoulders in order to get the best bench press that I am capable of doing. Others bench more with their chests and would therefore most likely take a wider grip on the bar than I would.
