Default Joe Average Information

Hey guys,

I am writing this post to provide some brief information about a much lesser known and newer system in powerlifting circles that is currently rising in flame - The Joe Average System (JA).

It was created by a man (Jim Parrish) who had realized that the WSB and MM systems were too difficult for him. He did not have the genetic ability to do that much intensity, volume, etc. He realized that all he was was average, and he needed to suit a system to his own needs and needs of others who were like him.

With many alterations to the basic WSB system, Jim created JA. The system emphasizes heavy band use and tension, and shorter and less frequent workouts. He also emphasizes GPP work as WSB does. The creator does not claim to have created his own system, rather Jim says that he has simply modified WSB to suit his and others' needs.

The JA template is much like this:

Day 1- Squat failure and speed squats
Day 2- Squat recovery,WSGMs, and sled training
Day 3- Bench failure and speed bench
Day 4- GPP day (like cardio)
Day 5- Tricep day and pullups (with bands)
Day 6- Maximum effort squat and deadlifts (with bands)
Day 7- GPP day (like cardio)
Day 8- Maximum Effort bench (with bands), declines and inclines(with bands)
Day 9- Deadlift recovery work, CSGMs, and sled work
Day 10- Tricep day and pullups (with bands)

I have known many lifters who love this system and have experienced incredible strength gains from it. The current SHW world record holder in the bench press, Gene Rychlak (1005 lbs. bench press), used this system to reach the top, although he claims to currently be using his own modified system.

Thumbs up

As with the WSB thread, I think it would also be good to use this thread to collect JA questions/comments/news etc. . Better researching, and better posts all in less threads.

Nice post, everyone is getting scary strong these days and huge. One day thousands of Ronnie Colemans and Tiny Meeker bench pressers will walk the Earth. Hahaha, we probably have the future of pros right here at this forum = )
