But many of the lifts would be tough for a shorter man. That atlas stone comes to mind it would be tough to get them onto the stands.

Maybe someone else knows for sure.

Not being TALL, but maybe the extra weight you can pack on when being tall. The more mass you have, the more weight you can pull. (i think :p)

The ideal height is between 6'1" and 6'2" I'm pretty sure.

IMO it would depend on the event.

Fingal's Fingers and Atlas Stones would be the two events that benefit taller strongmen.

Height is a definate advantage for strangman IMO
Events advantages such as:
Fingal Fingers - More Height enables you to flip the finger past its pivot faster, since your max leverage of the fingers will bring it closer to flipping over
Tire Flip - Height plays a small advantage for this event, from what i see taller individuals can lap the tire higher than shorter competitors OR taller people can launch the tire higher so they push it over in the same motion ( alot of it is technique but short people are naturally at a disadvantage in this sport)
Atlas Stones - Depending on the competitors technique Taller people have the advantage of getting the stones to higher platforms, But some people just fling those stones on there shoulders and just roll them on
Truck Pull - Taller people also have advantage, though alot is technique, but leg length plays a heavy role in this event (If seated, not experienced to other forms of truck pull ATM)
Farmers Walk + Coniens Wheel - the bigger you can step helps since most events are timed and implements cant touch ground ( bad for short peeps)

Alot of Strongman Events Height can play as an advantage, But your technique is Key, I'm around 5'7 and find that more height would help overall 6ft+ is an ideal height for the sport.

Let me put it this way.

If were to take 2 men with the same diameter measurements for arms, legs and such, and they had the same bf%, and one of the two men was 8" taller than the other, the tall man would have more muscle since his fibers are all likely to be longer than the shorter man's. More muscle equals more strength. The short man will look bigger, but its just an illusion.

Last nights WSA were a guy probably high 5 foot was competing. Couldn't even hit the 3rd stone to the height he needed. Mainly because he was short and the weight could be thrown to the platform the way his previous loads were.

The taller guys have a greater advantage in strongman by far. Most lifts just need more height to ge a better angle, leverage to lift the weight.

Jesse Marunde is 6 foot+ and he placed 2nd and 3rd in the WSA. He has a great advantage + he's strong as **** would account for him placing high.
