| is missing heavy pulls | As many of you know I am entering my first powerlifting meet on August 19th it is the APA Battle of the Baddest Open Power Fest. It is in Hanover, PA (learn more here http://apa-wpa.com/battleofthebaddest.pdf) From what I understand it’s a pretty big meet so I was wondering if anyone else on the forums is going or lifting in the meet or if anyone would like to go and/or lift in the meet. It would be cool to meet up, and you could maybe even show me the ropes cause it is my first meet. If anyone is going or plans on going drop me a PM or post here |

You'll need someone to watch the lifter board that lists the order the competitors will be lifting in and it changes all the time because the order always depends on what the attempted amount of weight will be for each attempt at each specific lift. At least they go by weight classes first, but within each weight class the order is set by how much weight you are going to attempt to lift. You may need help also with declaring what weight amount you want each successive attempt to be. For example, after you complete your first squat attempt you'll need to declare what weight you want your 2nd attempt in the squat to be. That will determine how much or how little time you have before your next attempt. Always make you 1st attempt a weight that you know for sure you can lift without any doubt. If you start too high you will not be allowed to go down after missing an attempt so choosing each attempted weight to lift is critical. If you fail to complete at least 1 attempt in all 3 lifts you will "bomb out" and be eliminated from the rest of the meet. Each lifter is only given a few minutes when his name is called to get to the bar and start their attempted lift. If you don't get there in time it will count as a failed attempt. These are just some of the things that you need to know and most guys need help managing so they can remain focused on the lifting and not the b.s. part of the meet. I hope this is helpful to you.

can you get to state college PA? There will be a couple meets in the area if your are intrests. They are official APA events held at prisons in the area. I competed in one last year and it was a quality event. It was a qulifying site for me for collegiate nationals (I didn't make the number but it was still fun).
