hey, opened the email i received just now saying i got a private message - clicked the link and showed something about zend optimizer to download?

I just noticed this myself while navigating the site

What is the Zend Optimizer?
The Zend Optimizer is one of the most popular PHP plugins for performance-improvement, and has been freely available since the early days of PHP 4. It improves performance by taking PHP's intermediate code through multiple Optimization Passes, which replace inefficient code patterns with efficient code blocks. The replacement code blocks perform exactly the same operations as the original code, only faster.

It's server-end things, I need to get my hosting company to update their version of Zend.

It's nothing spammy or virus or anything like that, it's a software encoder that protects software companies from people decrypting their code.

It's not us that havn't updated it, it's the company responsible for hosting this website. Unforuately there isn't much that we can do about it at the moment.

There's nothing stopping you from installing and using your own software. You have a virtual server...

From what I understand it has nothing to do with encryption. It's a performance hack much like modperl. The php scripts get preinterpreted and optimized rather than being interpreted on the fly. Either call your host and ask them to take 20 minutes of their time to keep up with technology, or just install your own copy and change the environment/apache variables.

Edit: Nevermind, I went to the site and read more about it. It does have to do with encryption. But my advice still stands the same. When you have a virtual server you are at liberty to install and use any software library or package you like because you have complete administrative rights.

wrong, IronMass is on a shared hosting enviornment

Makes no difference, you can run any software you want. It's just a *nix box. Even if you don't have admin rights you can install and run things in your user directory. This includes php interpreters and the likes. You can also set environment variables in your .bashrc file and use source to have them read in and exported.
