Cool Building Interest in the Forum

here is a good way to build up interest. I used to do it back when I had the down-time. If each one of the core members (you know who you are) can stop and answer 2-3 very basic questions on public forums like this : Diet & Fitness - Yahoo! Answers we can spark interest. I just sign it at the bottom with Ironmass.com.

There's also lots of social bookmark sites where you can link others to Iron Mass.

examples:
IronMass Forums - Bodybuilding, Supplements, Training, Nutrition, Contest Prep, and More! - StumbleUpon
Everyone's bookmarks for "IronMass Forums" on Delicious

or pimp it on other forums when it doesn't break their rules:

We need new blood, and using the handful of core members left here isn't going to be enough to generate what we need. On another note, I have noticed several of the other smaller fitness boards are also slowing way down.

you want members - throw in 2 research chem guys - and get a handful of guys to preach about "LEGAL" hormones and you'll see the crowd come over.

The quality will be bad - but its a crowd for sure. then you can promote them.

how about enticing a good community back here? I'm sure skel could definitely help out with the idea he tried out with his site : Lose over 100lbs

I personally see no incentive to continue posting here besides the occasional conversation with DJstarer which I could probably easily continue on facebook. hell I talk to davtown and paul on AIM more then I have on here. Even TCO I talk to on AIM occasionally rather then here.

its sad. Sholiz sold this site in hope that the new owners could help drag it from the grave it was running towards. Guess whoever bought it (sirk?) dropped the ball big time. Also, disrespecting someone like skel, is not the way to go towards helping out.

I still wear my ironmass shirt out to the gym and around, and hopefully one day that logo will be back and hopefully one day this place will be just as good as the day I joined it.

also, think about diversifying. I know some Olympic lifters who wouldn't mind a new forum to bring stuff to. If we get a dedicated section I can try and entice a few over.

Nope. I just work here. Also won't take the blame for an already slow forum being slow.

I'm not against this idea. Anybody else for or against this?

We need members... active members. Members generate content... content attracts new members... and so it goes. Hard to compete with the big boards that have massive content, granted much of it sucks, but it's content.

What we really need is a leader with a plan for how to grow the site. There has to be a concerted effort placed behind a well-designed strategy, or nothing is going to change. You can't do nothing and expect something to happen. I don't mean to imply any blame for the current situation. I really don't blame the current site owner and his staff. Let's face it, we were polishing the brass on the Titanic long before the site was sold. All I'm doing is stating the reality of what it will take to change things. No leadership = no ironmass.

Besides offering advice on other forums, what do you guys think we could do to gain some members? I honestly can't think of much else to do. I was ready to make some fliers and put em up down in the weight room, maybe a few around town, but I don't know how many members that would get us. We gotta team up somehow and use what little power we have together and make this a collaborative effort. I agree with what madman said, that without leaders this site is gonna go down the toilet, but we also need followers. If the leaders are doing everything and everyone else is doing nothing, it doesn't really do a lot of good. We all have to pull our own weight to get this site off its ass and sprinting.

I never realized how much this site meant to me until I realized what date I joined and how much different I am because of it. I refuse to accept that this site is a goner without putting up a fight.
