You know, that was actually only 18 months ago.

If things go well, hopefully I can achieve that same level of conditioning at my next show in June, but with about 25 lbs more muscle!

I ahve three, NPC T/U, Muscle Mania Pro in Long Beach and the IFPA Cape Cod pro. After that I am done. I have not had a year off in a long, long time and now at over 40 I think I have gone about as far as I am going to go. I will just train for health and to look good.

Good luck with your shows this year.

We had a good friend compete at the Team U in Fitness this year. She placed third in the Short class, but then went on to win the Overall at the NPC Nationals in November.

Team U is a great show. Gotta love NYC.

Best of luck with your preparations.

Yes, my client Jelana also did well at T/U missing her pro card by one slot. Had her go to the IFBB NA and again 2nd, just missing her card! We made an agreement at the T/U that I would do it with her next year... yikes! Its all for fun, but my buddy Steve has done well in the welters the last two years and he and I are really competitive so I may have a chance at a top five, but I am not counting on a high placement. Just gonna have some fun before I retire! Why don't you join us? You would do well in the light weight.

I'd love to do the TU eventually, but unfortunately next year I wont be able to be on stage at all.

With this Pec tear, It's going to be about 6 months before I can even begin to resume normal training. The rest of 2006 will be spent working to try to get back my size and strength. Hopefully I'll be back and better than ever for the 2007 season.

I'd be Welter also. I competed at 165 last year, and was on pace to be closer to 170-175 on stage next year before the tear....although for a big show like the TU I would have probably bust it to come in at super dry 165 again with lots more muscle than last year.

Oh well....now my focus is on recovery and getting back to form for 2007.

Best of luck to all three of you next year!

EME,

I could tell going over your contest history that you added some great size, but up to 165!? Nice! Did the X-factor assist in that? I am sure you will have a full and speedy recovery so let me know when you decide to contest the T/U so I can go cheer you on.

Thanks Sully.

I know the X-Factor helped a lot with the added size last year.

When dieting for my August show while using X-Factor, I actually gained 6 lbs LBM while dropping my bodyfat over 6% during the same time period. I also added 1 inch to my arms during this same period of time.. all while contest dieting. Before using X-Factor, I had never actually gained LBM while contest dieting. Some of this can be attributed to some changes I made in my diet and training, but I absolutely believe the X-Factor contributed greatly.

I actually had to not eat or drink almost anything the day of the weigh in to make the 165 1/2 weight class limit at my last show. The show I did in August only had three weight classes for the Open so 165 1/2 was actually the top of the Lightweight class, not 154 1/4 as in other shows.

The week of my tear I was up to 201 lbs, and still relatively lean for a bulking period... top 4 abs were still visible, visible veins everywhere when training... so I think I would have probably ended up in the mid 170's in contest shape next year... but who knows.

Sully,

Did the NPC ever give you a hard time about competing after you earned Pro Status in another orgranization? I think they technically can keep you from competing if you've competed for money in another orgaziation, but I don't think it's something they normally enforce. What has been your experience regarding this?

No, I actually have not done a pro show yet. I have earned many cards, but decided to not make the jump until this year. I am doing the T/U first, then the pro shows for that reason. I actually spoke to Mike Katz about last year at his show in CT. I won and recieved my National qual at that show but did not want to try T/U because I didn't want to get killed and end up last. Mike sat me down and we had a long talk and I decided on the T/U and two pro shows. You need to test yourself and its not about sitting in your safety zone all the time, and I had been doing that far to long. It was his idea on the timeing so I get both T/U and pro experiance. Then I can hang up my trunks knowing I went as far as I genetically could.

Thanks for the info Sully.

I have basically decided to begin competing as a Pro in the WNSO for the same reason. At first, it will be a big jump up for me, but I know it will push me to make even better progress.

I made the decision, knowing that I probably won't be able to compete in the NPC any longer.. but it was a path I had to choose.

Although, if you don't actually win money, you may still be eligible in the NPC. Not sure about that. I will definitely train to be my best, but realistically, I doubt I'll place in the money in my first few Pro shows. Maybe I'll still have a few years to compete in the NPC also. The Team Universe would be great to do at least once.

Good luck Ayoung!

EME,

Yes, the rule is money, if you get a cash prize you have to apply for amature status. I don't think I will have that problem though so I may do T/U in 07 as well.

I do 15 minutes on the treadmill before and after each workout. On days off I do 60 minutes on the treadmill.

Here is a typical day's meal plan:

1. 3 egg yolks, 6 egg whites, multi-grain bread with a pat of butter.

2. 1 cup cooked Oatmeal with cinnamnon and blueberries Health drink with apple, cranberries, green tea, aloe vera juice, gelatin and royal jelly.

3. Chicken, baked potato, ww pasta or rice

6. fish, chicken or lean beef with a fibrous veggie. (asparagus, broccoli, green beans, etc.)

I supplement with a multivitamin, On Whey protein powder, creatine and various others.

I am 60 years old, 5'9" and currently weigh 197 lbs.

My weakest points are:
abs (I have them, they don't show well yet) I am not worried about this.
calves, defined but underdeveloped, really needs work.
thighs, underdeveloped compared to upper body, some mass needed and def.
Chest, Lower pec, A little more mass would be nice, but I should cut up well.
Traps, I could use some height and separation.

Strongest points are:
Shoulders
Back
Triceps
Glutes
Serratus
Obliques are coming in
Forearms
Upper chest, this is coming in nicely

I will be competing in NABBA masters, age 50 and up. Using last year as a guide, I would only have to come in cut up to take masters. There wasn't a six pack in the bunch. Most had little mass. Of course, you never know who may show up. This is my first competition. Last year, I was just a spectator.
I am 14 weeks out. I have switched from bulking to cutting. (I know it is a long time, but I have never gotten myself below 12% bodyfat before.)

Ok, what should I be doing differently for my contest preparation cut?
