Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 216 | Now that I'm in sunny San Diego I'm getting interested in learning to ride. Do any of you guys ride or have experiences to share? I'm certainly not planning on selling my car or anything, but would probably use the bike for commuting to work(15 minutes or so) and enjoying the weather on the weekends.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 68 | I have known way to many people that have been put into the hospital riding a bike to think this is a good idea... especially out here in Cali... with all the nuts in cars on the road ways... it is a good gas saver, but there is just to big a chance of some idiot in a car not seeing you and running you into the ditch or k-rail for my liking...

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 216 | I just found some more info regarding motorcycle accidents: "3 | Are most fatal motorcycle crashes caused by passenger vehicles? No. Nearly half of all motorcycle driver deaths involve just the motorcycle and no other vehicle. This proportion has remained largely unchanged over time. Speeding and alcohol use contribute to many of these fatal single-vehicle crashes. In 2006, 49 percent of the 2,037 motorcycle drivers in single-vehicle fatal crashes were speeding. Forty-one percent of motorcycle drivers killed in single-vehicle crashes in 2006 had blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) of 0.08 percent or higher. In an Institute-sponsored study of fatal motorcycle crashes, the majority of fatal multiple-vehicle crashes were head-on, involved one vehicle running a traffic control, or involved one vehicle turning left in front of the other.2 In head-on crashes, the driver of the other vehicle, not the motorcyclist, more often ran the traffic signal or turned left in front of the motorcycle. However, motorcycles were more often speeding or not in the proper lane." -taken from Q&As: Motorcycles — general Looks like half the people that die on bikes are speeding, drinking, and riding huge bikes... "8 | Is engine size increasing? The average engine size in all classes of motorcycles involved in fatal crashes has risen sharply. Among motorcycle drivers killed in 2006, 33 percent drove motorcycles with engine sizes larger than 1,200 cubic centimeters, compared with 26 percent in 2000 and 17 percent in 1997." Interesting.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 68 | But does it say how many accidents are caused by cars that are not fatal... I personally know 5 different people who have been in motorcycle accidents.. none fatal.. where the driver of the car claimed to have not seen the bike... You do what is best for you, but make sure you are safe about it.. make sure to wear the proper gear, and to ride safely, if that means taking a course.. then I would do so..

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 216 | Absolutely. If I decide to get a bike, I'm definitely taking the MSF course; not only do you pay less insurance if you've passed the course, but you also don't have to take the riding portion of the motorcycle license test.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 47 | Yeah dude I am in the process of doing the same thing. Take the MSF course, find a decent bike (nothing too fast at first lol) and when you're on the road just assume that people in passenger vehicles can't see you.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 5 | Well I myself don't have a motorcycle but I just got a scooter to save gas, but after riding for a while I know want a motorcycle bad! Not to mention half of my friends have one now. They told me if you ride one you will be addicted and won't be able to stop. I say get one just now instead paying attention to what you are doing you have to pay attention to what every car around you is doing. |
