| Pro Stature | I need something for self protection, and I love knives, but only one kind. I have a constant image in my head of being in a struggle with a knife that comes out and locks, and the knife being hit hard on the back, busting or unlocking the lock, and cutting all my fingers off. So I have a fear of these, but I still love knives, but like I said, only one kind. This kind, are the ones that are just a blade and handle, they don't flip out or do anything fancy, and there is no chance of a lock breaking or something and something bad happening. So I found three knives that I like pretty well, and I want to buy all three, but the price kind of scares me. I don't know if they are just cheap, or really and truly.. cheap (a piece of shit). What do you guys think? http://www.knivesplus.com/smith-wesson-sw-hrt3bf.html http://www.knivesplus.com/smith-wesson-sw-hrt2b.html http://www.knivesplus.com/smith-wesson-sw-hrt4.html

| Soldier In Progress | I'll tell you somethin' bro, my grandpa made knives for almost 35 years. A knife will last as long as the maker making it. Invest in quality for a knife and it'll treat you well as long as you need it to. With that said, the BEST knifes out on the market today (and this just isn't in my opinion) are ColdSteel. Other than going to a custom knifeworker, they are #1 in everything from the steel they use to grip strength, on folding knives lock strength, and on fixed blades the sheer strength of the blade. your best bet in reality is to have a folding knife, worst comes to worst reach for the clip hanging on your poicket -- pull it out, and a quick flip it's open. you said you have a fear, as do I, but it takes trusting your skill and your knife to get rid of that fear. best knife for your application I think: http://www.coldsteel.com/recon1.html Spear point check 'em out at: http://www.coldsteel.com/

| Pro Stature | No good for self protection, I carry a switch blade on me. Look around on the internet for a switchblade, they are cheap and extremely effective. If all else fails, PM me, I might be able to hook you up with somthing... ehh... different. |

Switch blades are illegal in a lot of states. Hell, the knives I posted are illegal in my state but I'm going to carry one in my truck (i may end up just carrying all 3, and yes, no matter what i get, i'm getting 3 knives) and the ones I carry I will conceal extra tight (one/two on my ankles and one/two on the inside of my pants on my waist) so unless I get searched and all, nobody will ever know I have them, and if my life is on the line, shit I don't care what's legal and not, I won't just let someone kill me. The problem with switch blades is if I am put through a basic search (empty pockets, show waist) they'll find it and wam, I'm gone. Down the road I'll buy more and more knives and I'll never stop, I'll die with mountains of knives (lol maybe not mountains but i plan on having a lot) and when I turn 21 I'm going to get a small pistol and get a license to carry all this shit. In my state, you can get one permit that allows you to carry any concealed deadly weapon. If I get in a fight, I'm not gonna use this shit, weapons in a fist fight are dumb, but if I'm getting mugged, robbed, jumped by more than one person, etc to where I am in danger, I won't go down without guns blazing and knives flying.

I never said I was getting those three in my post, I just said I'm getting three no matter what, but I don't want anything but a fixed blade. A fixed blade knife takes no loger to get out then a folding knife if the fixed blade is on my waist, just reach for it (same as folding knife) unsnap the buckle (this would take as much time as it does to unfold the knife) and pull it out. Same time. Then if something happens with that, I have one/two more back up ones I can reach for. EDIT: Also, I love the site you posted though. I love those knives, but I don't think I will be able to get any of those right now (they get expensive) I just don't have the money, but for Christmas (when i get some money from family and stuff) I'm going to buy as many cold steel knives as I can. Thanks for the link.

So I'm gonna put my trust in a folding knife, and buy the Recon 1 Tanto plain blade. This is because, at school I can have pocket knives and pocket knives are not considered a deadly weapon. I wanna buy more than one, but I can't right now and if those knives are really the best and all, it should last me a while (after all, i have another little pocket knife for other things, this knife will just stay razor sharp and only be used for protection. For Christmas I'm going to buy another folding knife for around 100 dollars and one expensive one for around 200 dollars. That way I'll have three awesome knives with me at all times and they won't be illegal. BTW, I REALLY love the black sable and the black talon. Thanks again.

| Unpaid Trash Collector | They are OK ..keep in mind you get what you pay for. I have knives of each type yet of different makes. Cheap knoves are good for doing things where you do not expect a lot out of the knif or what might happen to it.

The day I turn 21 though, I'm going to buy a gun and get a license to carry it, and I'll still carry my knives. If my mom lets me take money out of the bank, then I'm going to argue for this bad boy right here.. http://www.coldsteel.com/60bs.html

| Pro Stature | Yeah, I think it's sad that I do have to carry a weapon but, that's the world today and I don't feel like becoming another statistic to the people who have died from robberies or muggings or whatever.
