Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 158 | FORK... It came out to $170.08 ... :blue: I have a TI-83 but it does not take derivitives... taking derivitives by hand is PAINFUL.... I have a test on Thursday that's going to involve rates and related rates, optimization, etc. The questions are ridiculously hard. This calculator is going to SAVE MY LIFE. I'm going to sell my Ti-83 plus for 50-60 bucks hopefully.... Also the ti-89 titanium was a long term investment. This calculator does it all. It does 3d graphing, linear algebra, differential equations (top level calc) and all levels of calc and trig etc... Now I just gotta learn how to use the freakin thing LOL.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 158 | Pfft, I know how to take derivitives and graph derivitives, that alone will save my ass on this test. If I can automate optimization, finding the tangent based on a related rate, and get it to play a game of tetris I'm set for an A in calculus. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 158 | a derivitive of an equation models the equations rate of change (velocity if modeling moving objects), the second derivite models the derivitive's rate of change (acceleration if a moving object, area if it's the derivitive of the volume of a 3d object). Optimization uses the derivitives to optimize modelled situations... such as how to optimize gas usage if it were a model of a cars gas milage as a function of speed. Related rates are something like... a cone shaped funnel has water in it. The water's surface has a radius of 2", the water is emptying at 3" per second. At what rate is the height of the water changing at .75 seconds. Do you see why I need a 170 dollar calculator yet? LOL...

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 51 | When I was in college, we couldn't use graphing calculators in Calculus, Diff E, etc..... The HP's were the bad ass models back then.... We had to do all the calculations by hand.. even in my Eng. classes. You guys are soft now..... :boink1: - EME

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 158 | Hah it's true. My professor always says how lucky we are to have these things. I can't even imagine the work and time involved in finding something soooo simple like a linear regression by hand! This calculator is right up there in power with Maple and Mathmatica. This thing can even solve multi variable equations in a few key strokes. Not to mention... finding differentions, integrals, inflection points, etc... I feel like I'm saved haha.

| Pro Stature | I'm in HS and I use a TI-83 because I just right all my notes and equations in it. And when I'm bored, I just draw some pictures in the graphing plot.:nosthumbs |
