Default personal trainers salaries

how much do they make? i thought they were low paying jobs, but i was told by a college advisor that they make $50 to $100 dollars an hour. However, if you go to the bureau of labor statistics(bls.gov) it says they make $15,000 to $20,000 a year, so who do i believe?

well keep in mind that there is no way in hell they're training clients 40 hours per week. $50 to $100 an hour is about right, and depends on a ton of things like the gym they train at, their credentials, their experience, etc. Starting out, you won't have a client base at all so you'll have very little income from training. This should improve as you develop relationships and a reputation at your gym, but you still aren't gonna be making much money.

Many of the ones I know, actually work at 3 or more places though, so I guess that could add up.

I also think the more qualified they are the more they charge, they walk and talk the part

At our gym, Lifetime Fitness, I look better than all of them (10) but one! ans ive just begun!!!!!

You gotta look the part to succeed in my opinion.

Agreed on looking the part all the trainers at the gym i go to are skinny and perfrom 1/4 squats theres no way in hell id pay £30 (roughly 50USD)/hr for their services.. if they looked like impressive lifters, performed excercises properly and were knowledgeable then sure

Build up a respectable reputation and good things will follow.

Also, go for your target client base ... do you want the LA-fitness types? Probally where you'll make the most money is in large cities, training people for overall fitness or to look "shredded" rather than actually putting on much msucle. They all want to "tone", ya know?

I'd also say for you to build your phyquie for the clients you plan to train. If you're 200lbs, 8% bodyfat, and can run 30 miles on the treadmill you'll have a LOT more clients than 250lbs @ 8% and do low-intensity cardio

bls.gov is very misleading at times. They don't take into account those who actually work and those who go to work and slack off (low paid).

My trainer charges his clients $300 per month, so lets just say he has 55 clients (I'm pretty sure he has more like 65-70), that's roughly $200,000 per year. But then you have to take in account costs for (1) rent (2) the massive amounts of water bottles he always keeps stocked (3) equipment repairs (4) other miscellaneous items I don't know of. This salary is split with his girlfriend too (who is the other trainer there), but they share everything and live together so it doesn't really matter Keep in mind his business plan is a very unique one for trainers, and that he could also charge plenty more (and people would still pay) for the amount of experience/knowledge he has and the results he continously gets all his clients. Thankfully he lets me workout for free :dbanana:

So what I'm trying to say is, if you have the knowledge, can continously get the results, and are business savvy, the sky is the limit

Trainers at my old gym worked 8 hours a day so 40 a week. Each hour was about $50-$100. That's atleast $100,000+ a year. I would still ask EME though.

What Lift and JB20 said ... as much as that's the idealistic way of life, being happy and living decent -- it's hard for the two to co-exist.

Some get lucky, others get stuck in a shitty job to pay bills ... or two shitty jobs.
