Default I've decided I don't want the "college experience"

For many years I fooled myself into thinking I was somehow missing out because I never experienced college binge drinking, random socializing, and partying. It took 3 years of college and a year of living on campus to figure out: I don't want that!

What do I want out of college? An education. I want nothing more than to focus on my studies, my work, and my weight lifting. That is what's important to me. It was foolish of me to think I wanted something to do with a culture that places such a high value on drinking all hours of the night, eating junk food, and never getting a good night's rest.

Maybe I've somehow gotten "old", but at 26 years old.... I think it's becoming clear to me what I really want out of life. Success does not come from having a lot of friends, nor does it come from impressing other people. It comes from impressing YOURSELF.

All I want to do is go to bed at 11pm each night, so I can start each day with a workout, eat my chicken and spinach, focus on my studies, and become something for me. I think I finally understand what people have meant all along when they said to, "Do it for yourself." It's unfortunate it's taken me this long to realize it.

Its good to have things in perspective like that, but you can't honestly say that having friends isn't important to you. In addition, networking is very important...don't lose sight of that. Its very easy to take this idea too far and shut out the rest of the world and then suddenly wake up one day without any good friends.

Absolutely friends are important.

But I've been looking for friends in the wrong way. I've been trying to 'fit in' for as long as I remember. I've *ALWAYS* felt pressured to drink to feel accepted. Finally I realize that it's not the case. Those aren't friends. Friends are people you can hang out with sans alcohol. Friends are people who share aspirations and goals, common ground to walk on, and a snappy wit to make fun of you when you need it.

Yeah, the kids at my school are all over the "college experience" as if thats all they want out of life. It's mindless culture dribble, and its ****ing annoying as hell to me.

The fact you get to choose what to learn is fine enough for me, thanks.
