Default I'm loving my major, but starting to dislike my minor....

I love computer science and programming, I accell at it, and on a sick level I find it fun. Like for example I am programming a relational database system w/ query language from scratch in C for class. It's due soon and the pressure is on and I love it.

But my minor classes... Math... I actually dropped out of calc3... it's too intense for me. The math at this school is just too hardcore... linear algebra is fun, discrete probability is fun too but it's so hard to get a good grade...

Not sure if I mentioned this here or not, but I actually got my first on the books programming job here at UAlbany. Moving on up slowly but surely.

Why don't you look at a finance or economics minor. Both involve simple math, and both look really good on a resume.

I'm not sure I'd be interested enough actually. As strange as it sounds I do have an interest in math... but there's specific things I don't like... as in, the study of calculus. I just don't like it, it's abstract as all hell, and it gets applied to different branches of math that I am not comfortable with.

Where as programming... is fun

Here's my major classes:
Different forms of logic starting with propositional (trues/falses, ands/ors, etc), which builds into string and set theory, which builds into generic grammer and language in one direction ... and circuit design binary arithmetic in the other. The other aspect (The fun part) is programming and implementing the theorems we've built on in a variety of programming languages. CS focuses primarily on low level code, really the code that glues everything to the processor.

But the math minor is all like....
You have a theoretical 5 dimensional shape with equation a^2+4/z^2-x+x^+y/2-q^q/2=37. Find the objects volume and surface area.

(doesn't exactly look like that, that's not a real question, I'm just displaying how much it sucks)

Math like that sucks ass. If it has no applicable real world use what good is it?

It has some uses at my school you can 2 routes with computer programming one with upto Differential Equations and one without. Basically the one with is a path so you can program those big scientific computers like nasa and stuff, and all other stuff. The other is just the all other stuff. Personally CAlC III was easy but I took it for engineers which throws out a lot of stuff you don't really need and focuses and other concepts like 3d modeling. Volumes and crap.

I hope you don't need calculus based statistics. Now that is the most made up math EVER. It does have some principals from calc III though. Not many. I squeezed through that class on a mercy grade. I got on my tests 64%, 48%, dont't know on final but I didn't even do half the problems(literally out of 8 problems with 2 parts per problem I did 3 problems in 1.5 hours). NO one in the class left early and stayed until he said time. At 10 minutes too I b$tched him out on the test in massive paragraphs on my study time and how I felt that the test was not like the class examples. The problems in examples where hard enough. So I am sure I got less than 50% on final. My average on quizzes was 50%. Add that up I should have failed. He passed me with a C.
