How does an A- factor in to a GPA?

Let's say for the semester I get four As and one A-
Computer Hardware A 3 credits
Pre-Calc A 4 credits
Spanish (potentially an) A 3 credits
Hiking A 1 credit
Economics 101 A- 3 credits

How do I figure out my GPA for the semester?

Now, I have a 4.0 for two previous semesters which includes i think...

Networking A 3 credits
Computer theory A 3 credits
Discrete data structures in C++ A 4 credits
Western Civ A 3 credits
Composition 101 A 3 credits
Composition 102 honors A 4 credits
College Algebra A 3 credits
Step Aerobics A 1 credit

Found the info for anyone interested on how GPA works

so I had a total of 38 credit hours
Each A is worth 4 per credit hour and an A minus is worth 3.7
so I got 35 credit hours A = 140 and 3 hours at A- = 11.1 for a total of 151.1 grade point. Divide it by total credit hours and I get a gpa of 3.98

if im correct which i most likly am any kind of 'A' is a 4 any kind of b is a 3 and so on so you got a 4.0 you smart ass

Nope, an A- is calculated as a 3.7, that was the missing piece of information I needed. I had to dig three pages back in a google search to find out the info. :rmad:

I believe it depends on the university. I'm only at a junior college right now and they only have A/B/C etc on the transcipt, so it is 4/3/2 etc, but I think it differs depending on the school.

While we're on the subject of grades, in case anyone was wondering my semester grades (and I know you're out there):
Financial Accounting (4 units) A
Microeconomics (3 units) A
Physical Anthropology (3 units) A
American History (3 Units) A
Computer Science (4 units) A
Weightlifting (2 units) A *OMG!!!*

Man your school sucks... I would hat eto go to a school that measures you in the A-, A, A+ scale... I had a friend that went to SMU and she was telling me that you had to get 97% and above to get a 4.0...

Luckily for me the good ole 89.5% normally will get me the 4.0

yeah, the A- pisses me off to no end. I was 9/10 of a percentage point away from maintaining my perfect 4.0

Good job man. I just finished my first semester at Clemson, and I am pretty happy. I had all A's except for calculus (C!!!!). I am horrible at math and was actually happy with the C (straight A's in high school - I never thought I'd see the day I was happy for a C).
