i think Foobar2000 is better :
Kernal Streaming
Very low memory usage
It sounds better (IMHO)
Database scanning, mmmmmm
Simple interface
Hundreds of audio codecs.
Ultra customizable (plugins)

I've always used Winamp. I only use it for MP3 playback however. My only complaint is the poor equalizer

I'm old school. I prefer my Sony HiMD for portable stuff - no file compression - and when I'm at home, I have a Yamaha CD Recorder with a 200GB hard drive as a part of my home entertainment set up - currently stores 180 death metal albums, once again uncompressed.
