FOR DOG LOVERS, THIS MADE ME REALLY APPRECIATE THE BOND I HAVE WITH MY DOGS! I'm no wuss, I'm a foul mouthed, beer drinking construction worker, but when I heard this on the radio it really deepened the the feelings I have for my own dogs. WARNING: if you are going to listen to this you might not want to do it at work, there's a good chance you will become emotional (I honestly had tears streaming down my face on a constuction site the first time I heard it). I don't care how much weight you can lift or how much pain you can take, if you are a true dog lover this will strike a chord with you. Damn, that was sad. I'd never do that to my dog unless she was seriously ill and it was for the best. But not because I'm moving or because some woman doesn't like dogs. Women come and go, but there's nothing like the loyalty of a dog. No other pet is as loyal as a dog. Hell, my dog's more loyal that most humans I know.

I feel the exact same way. It's weird, I actually judge people on how my dogs react to them. For some reason there are a few people that my dogs just can't stand and it makes me wonder if they know something that I don't. The really wierd thing is that it's usually super religious people that they act strange around and I have 2 of the most friendly dogs you could ever meet.

Wow, that was the first time something I read brought a tear to my eye. Last October, I had to put down my dog, because he was imbalanced. He could be so sweet and loving, so smart, but he would bite without warning. When we brought him there, my mom started crying, but I just stood there stiff and emotionless. Reading thought just brought it all flooding back. Damn
In brighter news, 3 weeks ago we got a Labrador Retriever puppy and he's as sweet as can be

Damn guys, that tore M and I up!! M is a vet tech for a living and she sees people just *throw away* pets all the time. Here's a few pics of *throw away* dogs. My boys, Chalie The Chewman is the boxer who at 3 weeks of age was left outsdie and damned near froze to death. Hell, M and I didn't even name the little guy until he reached 5 lbs because we didn't think he'd make it. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE WILLPOWER OF A DOG!! He's the pup in my avitar. His tongue hangs out because of a growth spurt that left him with one side of his longer than the other.

Benny or Benjammin' as we call him was basically an abortion for lack of a better term. The breeder put the female outside and the male bred her. The problem was mom was a Freedom Bulldog and daddy was an American Eskimo or Spitz. He's the clown of the 2, he even works out!!

That is one of the objectives of my post. I know people want dogs, but wanting a dog and truely owning and loving a dog are different things. I have friends who went out and piad a ton of money for a chocolate lab and they just left it out in the yard or in the basement because the dog made the house smell like dog. Then it started acting up and losing weight and the vet said the dog seemed like it needed more attention, so they bought another dog to keep it company out in the yard. Now there is no grass for 2 feet inside the fence where they pace all day and all the bushes and shrubs are gone because the dogs got bored and ripped them out. And the owners want to know if there's some drug they can give the dogs to calm them down because they seem so needy. They bought a dog because it was in the LL Bean catalog and now they go on vacation 10 times a year and leave the dogs in the yard with a bunch of food.

I think anyone who wants to get a dog should listen to that link before they do and really think about why they want a dog.

Didn't used to be. But that mostly spawned from the 80s I believe. It's not surprising why they call the people from the 20-30s "The Greatest Generation"

It's hard to say what exactly caused it but I think the break down of the family unit and loss of religion for the most part (I'm not religious) has made people in North America care less about their community and more about what they can do for themselves. I think it will take a major catastrophy to turn things around.

Unfortunately, we live in a disposable world and somewhere along the lines pets have become just like a bag of trash. When you tire of them or they become a burden, just toss them aside. I'll tell you this much, my pups get the best medicial treatments available REGARDLESS OF COST!! As soon as I get a scanner I'll scan in some pics of Charlie just so y'all can see what a pitiful mess he was. 5 years ago if you'd have told me he'd still be alive in 5 years, I'd probably have laughed in your face that's what bad shape he was in. I got up every night to feed him his baby human foods because on top of everything else he's lactose intolerant. The more people I come across, the more I like my critters!!
