| SEEK & DESTROY | I'm going to transfer to CSULB this Fall and I was wondering about transferring units. You can transfer up to 70 accrued units, and as of the end of this semester coming up, I will have 68. I want to get to an even 70, but most classes are 3 units. Can I take a 3 unit class and just use 2 out of 3 units to transfer making it 70, or do they do it by class, resulting in 0 of the 3 units transferring since it would be 71? I've taken most of my required classes and got all the tedious shit done with. I just want to take something enjoyable. I was thinking of either a health class or a class called healthy living/exercise along with my other load. Thanks bros

The reason for doing this is to see if all the classes you have taken jive with all the classes they have in their handbook. IN other words do they all match up which means you don't have to take other classes to meet their requirements. And yes, they might make you take a class that you would argue that you have already had but that is not the way the game is played. Here is a bad example: You have had Sociology for midgets and they have a class Called sociology for little people. Somehow they say they are totally different. Bottom line get them your transcript and if it all lines up then take the easy crap you were talking about, but if it doesn't you are gonna have to bust butt to make up the deficiencies. By the way colleges make lots of money by finding these little differences and making you pay more money. Don't be afraid to go in and argue with one or two counselors if you think you are right. They also count on you being young, bored, and easily swayed. It's a business and don't let all the bullshit professors tell you differently. |

Also remember they only really 'count' if they are part of your major curriculum. If you are a computer sci major and have 12 credits in A&P it really doesn't do anything for you ![]()

| SEEK & DESTROY | Damn, are you guys serious? My major in business information systems management says it's 124 units total. So it may only transfer certain classes? What a ****ing pain in the ass. I may be in college longer than I thought...and I thought I was doing good having 70 units in 4 semesters. GRRRR

| Pro Stature | Unless your current college has a deal with the college your are transfering to, I doubt 50% of your credits will count toward your major. Luckily when I transfered about 70% of my credits were able to go toward my major, about 82 or so. Basically all my core classes and a few majors were taken care of. Saved about $15k by going to a community college for two years. |

| SEEK & DESTROY | But shouldn't the majority of the classes transfer as GE units? Like if I needed say X amount of business, economics, and finance classes and the rest GE units, shouldn't they carry over. Surely it can't be 124 units of all business related courses

| SEEK & DESTROY | I actually will have to send them my transcript soon to be accepted. I'm practically assured in, but I still have to formally send it in

| IronMass Donator | Hey Metal Viper, What school are you transferring from? Don't know if it's a jc or not, but all the California jcs that I have attended (Irvine Valley, Saddleback, Goldenwest, Coastline) will say right on the schedule which system requirement a class will fulfill, if any. As an example, take a look at the transfer page for Irvine Valley. (http://www.ivc.edu/transfer/) It also has a link to ASSIST (www.assist.org) which compiles info on the transfer requirements for the UC and CSU systems. Make those counselors at your current school work for their money. As soon as you expressed an interest in the CSU system, they should have been guiding you towards the classes that would fulfill the CSU requirements.

| SEEK & DESTROY | I'm transferring from Golden West I've gone onto CSUMentor.com when I was filling out my application for Long Beach and it has all the areas to fulfill where you put in your school, what grade you got, what semester, etc. and I have all the areas covered and then some.
