it's interesting for someone close to me.

My roomate's grandparents are the technical owners of over 2 miles of beach front property in cuba. It was seiged and stolen from them by the government, and they were deported. Imagine what that land is worth for tourism development these days......

Same shit different pile. I'm glad he's out of power but until he's dead and his brother is out of power we probably won't see a lift of the embargo, which sucks, because it only punishes the people and not the Castros.

good point. in america you grow up thinking communism = evil...but ALOT of of Cuba's woes comes more from the US embargo. even though other countries can (and do) trade with them, not being able to have access to the biggest free market in the world, or even be able to use the US as a waypoint is debilitating.

I dont agree with communism or socialism, obviously people getting their land seized by the state sucks...but really socialism in cuba was never given a chance. and you could argue the quality of life has improved since pre-castro (American run sugarcane and tobacco plantations). and they still managed to instill universal health care, lower poverty levels, etc..

Anyways. Fidels out, his brothers in, no big change really.
