Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 71 | i have wanted to build a gym for awhile now, and i'm getting some ideas here and there. i figure i'd build it semi-close to my house (future planning) and i would keep buying equipment and other needs until it was ready to go. locker room, showers, all kinds of equipment etc. probably just get a steel building put up instead of renting a place, which now typing it here seems stupid paying extra taxes etc. anyways anyone ever do their own gym here? advice? input? |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 51 | Starting a gym from the ground up is much more expensive than buying an existing facility. The major cost of a ground up is the architectural build out of the facility ... shower area, cardio deck, water fountains, flooring (mats), mirrors and brining everything up to code for that type of facility. Here are some of the operating costs of a gym: Janitorial Electric Telephone Gas Water Sewage Building lease marketing accounting legal Insurance Staff (sales, front desk clerk, mgmt) equipment lease (be sure to lease, not buy - except free weights) *The cost to purchase that equipment is extremely high. The lease basically amounts to a low interest rate loan from the equipment companies, so there's no reason not to lease.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 51 | Bascially, it boils down to location, the skills of mgmt, and the amount of $$ available for marketing. These are some numbers just to give you an idea of the breakdown. You also have to consider interest payments if you're taking out a loan. Labor 20.3% Equipment 17.3% Utilities 11.0% Lease 39.4% Marketing 7.9% Accounting / Legal 3.3% Supplies 0.8% The money you make depends on how well you run the place. Most struggle to make money.
