Default Anyone Listen to Gothic Metal???

I've never really listened to it before, but decided to download a "best of nightwish" CD....

It grew on me fast. It makes me picture a huge LOTR style battle with orcs and wizards and stuff. Gothic culture (fairies, magic, medieval mythology, swords) is pretty cool minus all the :gay: vampire crap.

Download some Opeth, skel. Their early stuff is heavy and fast, their later stuff is slow, melodic, and balad-esque. Awesome band.

Sweet. I just downloaded their last album... I'm only listening to the first song so far, but I'd wager they are more on the lines of death metal (thinking obitchuary, deicide, etc) with some 'soft spots'.

Awesome.

Skel, I recommend the following Opeth Albums:

Blackwater Park
Ghost Reveries
Damnation (very ballad like, quite... ?poetic? music)
Still Life

Also, if you like metal and its endless sub genres, I suggest you check out, if you haven't:

Meshuggah
Mushroomhead
Sonata Artica

Yeah Opeth is.

I have all their albums, they have some nice instrumental pieces as well as melodic death metal.

Face of Melinda is one of my favorites from the newest album.

Lacuna Coil
Epica
Finntroll
hell, that's enough for now...

Children of Bodom and Lacuna Coil, you would probably like for sure.

Not at all. "Extreme progressive metal."
