With a yearly family reunion to attend that's packed with food, and a belated graduation celebration, I had my work cut out for me. All month long I did surprisingly very little cardio. Mostly due to time constraints. My carbs were kept very low, and my calories hovered between 2,000-2,800 per day. This obviously excludes the four days of family reunion where I indulged in enough food to make even the thinnest ectomorph gain 5lbs. In fact by the time I was finished eating the cake the scale was up a full 15lbs! I did for the most part a 5 day split focusing on large compound movements like squats, deadlifts, benchpresses, and pull ups. All of the cardio I did was light to medium intensity. The focus is always on the weight lifting. Despite losing five pounds this month my strength has slightly improved. Supplementation for the most part was a multi vitamin, fish oil, anti oxidants, and a handful of different over the counter stimulants that I keep in my pantry. I believe supplementation should always be kept simple, and is only there to supplement the work you do in the gym. Even though I still haven't attained my desired physique, I'm just that much closer, and feel I have made fantastic progress in this past month. Thank you for the opportunity to take part in such a positive competition. Good luck to everyone involved, even if you don't win the competition you've won something amazing on your own. Health and a fit lifestyle. God Bless. ![]()

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 64 | This month was a great month for me. I feel I’ve turned a corner in my goal of becoming a competitive bodybuilder. Prior to April of this year, I had absolutely no aspirations to compete. I’m 32 and didn’t really start training hardcore until November of 2005. Prior to Nov. 2005, I was a regular gymgoer and I had developed a decent base, but I was far from a bodybuilder and never considered myself such. I was one of those guys who rarely ever hit the squat rack and if I did squats, I used the Smith Machine. I didn’t have a clue what intensity was. I had myself believing I was too old; too far past my prime to tap my full potential. I have come to realize how wrong I was. Seeing the example set by bodybuilding competitors of all ages both young and old has inspired me to set my goals high and stop at nothing until they are achieved. I will compete; I will win. I am at the gym most mornings doing cardio, then I'm at work 10 hours or more before I go back into the gym to hit the iron. On training days, I’m often at the gym a total of 2-2.5 hours. I like high volume training, as heavy as I can go while keeping the reps slow and focusing on the stretch of the negative. I use particularly slow reps for chest… I almost look like I’m benching and doing flyes in slow motion. My chest has responded to this approach better than anything else I’ve tried. I’ve lost 24 lbs since the beginning of April and maintained most of my strength. Some muscle groups, particularly my hammies, have improved while I’ve been cutting; the hammie gains have been coming since I added the dreaded glute-ham raise to my leg arsenal. For supps, I used what I consider my standards: BCAA, whey, multi, fish oil, flax oil, glucosamine + MSM, B6 complex, and Cissus. For what I consider specialty supps, I stacked X Factor and NHA (I finished the satack at the beginning of the contest), ALRI Thyrogen X and Venom Hyperdrive 3.0, and I have been running Scivation Anagen since the second week of the contest. I take Scivation Sesamin while cutting and I recently decided to make Scivation Noxidant my post-workout antioxidant of choice. I’m just getting started… I have a long way to go, but these next few years are going to rock. I plan to bodybuild for the rest of my life and hopefully compete well into my senior years.
